Understanding Corrosion

Corrosion, the deterioration of a metal due to its interaction with the environment, is a silent yet destructive force. It can manifest in various forms. Major HVAC manufacturer’s condenser corrosion treatment is often inadequate and new coils can degrade after only a few years of service

Oxygen corrosion: While a natural oxide layer can protect metals like copper and aluminum, pollutants like sulfur and nitrogen oxides create corrosive acids, leading to pitting.

Galvanic corrosion: When dissimilar metals interact in the presence of an electrolyte, such as saltwater, a less noble metal corrodes. This is particularly damaging to aluminum microchannel heat exchangers.

Promek AMC is a water based epoxy resin that repels condensate and improves efficiency of any heat exchanger. The coating will extend the life of any heat exchanger either on new equipment or in the field and already corroded. A large improvement in the life of air cooled condensers in coastal areas is now possible. The super hydrophobic properties of the coating (repels water) mean less defrosts and reduced bio fouling of coils. In addition the use of a silver nano permanent anti-microbial additive means that this coating will dramatically reduce the build up of microbial contamination, one of the leading causes of poor indoor air quality. Promek AMC can be easily applied on site and is suitable for small systems right through to the largest industrial heat exchangers and is even suitable for micro channel coating.

Salt test results

The photographs show an uncoated coil and one coated with Promek AMC after 500 hours of an acid / salt test. (ASTM B117 Test). If your car was subjected to this test it would be destroyed in 50 hours. The results of this test clearly demonstrate the efficacy of the Promek AMC coating.
